Many, LORD my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare. Psalm 40:5

Read Psalm 40

There is a song that I often find myself humming. It’s called “Wonder” by Amanda Cook.

“May we never lose our wonder
Wide-eyed and mystified
May we be just like a child
staring at the beauty of our King

You fascinate me, You fascinate us,
You fascinate me with Your Love.”

As I’ve been spending more time with the Lord lately and really encountering and realizing His constant, unconditional love, I’ve realized this song is more applicable than I first thought. I would listen and sing along with this song when I first heard it, but now it means even more to me.

Wonder – (noun) – a feeling of surprise mingled with admiration, caused by something beautiful, unexpected, unfamiliar, or inexplicable. (verb) – desire or be curious to know something, feel admiration and amazement; marvel.

I love this word, wonder. Read the definition above and then apply it to your relationship with Jesus. Sometimes we can get so consumed with “don’t do this” or “I messed up in this way” or just daily life that we forget the wonder that is our relationship with Jesus.

Are you filled with surprise and admiration because of Jesus’ beautiful, unexpected, unfamiliar, inexplicable love for YOU and me? It’s unfamiliar because there is no love like it, He is matchless. It is inexplicable because we can not fathom nor explain how wide and deep and vast and high is His love for us (Ephesians 3:18). Do you desire more of Him? Do you desire a deeper, closer, walk and connection with Him? Do you sit in admiration, amazement, and marvel at the Wonder that is His love, that is His life, that is His sacrifice?

As I realized how filled with wonder I am at the grace, love, mercy, forgiveness, sacrifice, of Jesus I began to think of other words to describe His love. Unconditional was one that came to mind. I thought “no, it’s conditional because I have to follow Him.” I think this can be a common thought based on our human mind and typical “give to get” tendency. But Jesus died for us *while we were still sinners* (Romans 5:8) He loves us always. His love is constant. His love is perfect. His love is unconditional. He chose you (Ephesians 1:4-5). We don’t deserve it, we can’t earn it and the amazing thing, the wonderful thing, the unexpected/unfamiliar/inexplicable thing is… we don’t have to! He offers this Love freely! FREEly!

Take a moment, sit back, close your eyes, and let that sink in. While you were still in your sin, Jesus died for you. The God that created the universe thought the universe was incomplete without you. Despite all that you’ve done, where you’ve been, what you’ve gone through Jesus is still there and loves you deeply, passionately, unconditionally. Wide-eyed and mystified, just like a child, think about the beauty of our King. Think of all He has done. Spend some time loving on Him today. As a teacher of mine said recently, “Don’t take your salvation for granted. It’s the best gift you can receive (Pastor Tom Smith).”

I pray that you are fascinated by His love today. That you never lose that wonder. That you’re reminded of your First Love.
