Read Matthew 1

We are called to live in obedience to God and His Word.

Have you ever been obedient to the Lord knowing you may face back lash from people around you?

Have you ever fought being obedient to the Lord because of the lies the enemy feeds you when you begin to align your will to His and His dreams begin to fill your heart?

Imagine what other people said about Mary and Joseph. The things they said about them or to their faces, the things they thought about them, the looks they got, the doubt that was voiced to them. There’s a possibility they were almost social outcasts because she was pregnant and people knew they had not been together yet. What people thought about Mary, what they would say, their judgements and their limited understanding could have very well kept her from doing the Lords will. So I’ll ask again; Have you ever been obedient to the Lord knowing you may face back lash from people around you? Have you ever fought being obedient to the Lord because of the lies the enemy feeds you when you begin to align your will to His and His dreams begin to fill your heart?

Mary and Joseph knew the judgements and comments that would likely be said to them, yet they obeyed the Lord.

I recently let a God sized dream fill my heart (again) and man, it scared me. Immediately the enemy began to say “But what about your past”, “You’re not good enough”, “What do you have to offer?” I could have sat there and let those thoughts run wild in my mind and squash this calling from the Lord. It’s up to us to choose how we respond. I choose to say, “Yes.”

Luke 1 says that Mary questioned “how can this be”, the angel told her what would happen and she said be it unto me. Mary said she is the Lord’s servant. Are we? It doesn’t matter what people say about us, what they do to us, how they doubt us, how the enemy tries to lie to us. If God is for us, who can be against us?

In Matthew 1:24, Joseph woke up, did what the angel commanded, and took Mary home to be his wife. But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son and he gave him the name Jesus. So, before she gave birth, I think about them going out to the market area or traveling and she’s pregnant, they’re together, people could be thinking all these things, doubts, judgements, etc. But in their hearts they were so confident in the Lord, they knew His plan, they knew they had been called and chosen. Chosen by the Lord. That’s all that mattered.

Moving forward, Jesus changed the world, literally. What would have happened if Mary and Joseph said no? What would have happened if they were too afraid? Where would we be?

We need to be so diligent in our walk with the Lord, reading His Word and spending time in prayer and worship daily. As we grow closer to Him, as we seek Him, He says we will find Him when we seek with all our hearts. As we draw nearer and His ways become our ways, it won’t matter what others say about us because we will know so deeply that this is the will of the Lord. We need to know that we know, like Mary and Joseph did, what the Lord has said to us and about us.
