In my About Me section, I talk a little bit about the decision to call the blog “God Adventures.” I wanted to expound a bit on that and why I love the word “Adventure” so much.
First of all, I love the word adventure. Anything can be an adventure. It depends on the attitude you have. I choose to live every day with God as an adventure. Who is He calling me to talk to, what does He have in store for me to learn, what sweet moment has He prepared just for me, etc. So “God Adventures” seemed quite appropriate. But let’s dig a bit deeper…
At the end of 2015, I began asking the Lord for a “theme” verse for the year 2016. The scripture He laid on my heart was Ephesians 3:20-21:
“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”
These verses always excite me. (Like I said before, I journal a lot! During my posts, I will include journal entries of mine that coincide with what we are talking about.) This is what I journaled about this scripture:
11/26/15:
“My God is able to do exceedingly and abundantly more than I could imagine. I want THAT adventure!”
Adventure: an unusual and exciting experience or activity.
Exceedingly: extremely; to a great extent
Abundantly: in large quantities; plentiful, extremely.
So, “extremely, plentiful” more than I can imagine! <3
Immeasurably: Limitless!!!
God’s power is limitless!
Adventure is a word that I love. As you can see above, I really think the definition applies to our relationship with the Lord. Also that year I saw the quote “Oh darling, let’s be adventurers.” I felt that this was a statement from the Lord to me. He was asking “Will you adventure with me?” “Will you go on this adventure of life with me?” My answer is yes! That is the reason this blog is called God Adventures. Every day is an adventure. Will you listen and do what He has planned?
My question to you today, and every day, is: What adventure is the Lord calling you to?
I certainly never envisioned myself starting a blog or standing in front of people talking or praying in front of a crowd or graduating Bible college as a pastor! This brings me to something I wrote in December 2015.
12/31/15 “Don’t put God in a box. He is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or think. Just let that sink in! MORE! Think of the biggest, wildest, brightest, craziest, messiest dream your heart can imagine for the glory of God. He can do more. He can do bigger. We just have to say “yes.” I say “yes!”
What is your biggest, wildest, brightest, craziest, messiest dream that your heart can imagine? Write it down but don’t put it in a box! I currently am working through this yet again. I’ve got several dreams of my heart that I feel are led by the Lord but they’re big and scary and wild…one of them being this blog. (If we were sitting together with blankets and coffee I’d likely cover my face with the blanket and sigh heavily.)
When I say don’t put God in a box I mean don’t limit Him to saying that missions is for someone else but not for you because that’s “too big” (that’s what I did) or put God in a box and say that “everyone journals 15 pages a day” 😉 (that’s what I did). Trust God to go outside the box you create. You may have a calling on your life, don’t put God in a box of how He’s going to bring you to that calling. Let God be God! Passionately pursue the adventure He has for you today! Follow Him and He will lead you down the path for your life. Don’t say “God has called me to be a missionary and THIS is the only way that will happen.
I have to remind myself. You have to remind yourself. God is bigger, God is greater, and He has called us out of darkness into His light. We are called to be salt and light. We can’t let the enemy silence us any longer. God’s promise to do exceedingly more than we ask or think is conditional, which means that it depends on the degree of the Holy Spirit’s presence, purpose and power operating in our lives. Decide today to stop letting the enemy into your mind to silence those God Adventures that the Lord is calling you to. He’s standing there, reaching out His hand saying “Oh darling, let’s be adventurers”… will you take His hand, follow His lead, and take the leap of faith? Or will you listen to the enemy behind you, the accuser, saying “what if you fail”, “what if you’re not good enough”, “what if you fall”? Like my Pastor always says “Thank you devil for reminding me where I’ve come from and giving me yet another reason to praise the Lord.” I choose to praise the Lord. I choose to go on this God Adventure. I choose Him. Because He chose me.
Will you?
As I finish up this post. This first post… I think about you. You, the reader. Who are you? Do we know each other outside of this “world wide web”? What is your life like? Where are you now, do you know Jesus? I’m praying for you.
I’d like to take some time below and just write a prayer. Feel free to join in, I pray this over you as well.
Lord, I thank you for choosing me. I thank you that Your plans are greater, You see ahead and You know what is in store. Lord, I choose to say “yes” to this adventure You’ve called me to. I pray that I would have eyes to see the way You’ve prepared and ears to hear only Your voice. Lay out the path before me clearly, help me be sensitive to Your voice, Holy Spirit, that I may hear you say “this is the way, walk in it.” Create in me a pure heart and renew a steadfast spirit within me, I want to serve only You. Lord, I pray for the reader of this post, my new friend. God, I ask that you would cover them. That you would make the adventure you’ve called them to clear before them, that you would give them the boldness to say “yes” to You and the peace to walk in whatever You have laid out before them. I thank you, God, for all that you are, all that you’ve done, and all that You have planned to do. You are matchless, you are righteous, there is no one like You.
In Jesus mighty name, Amen.
