Recently, the message in church was on Romans 8:31 and the question was asked, “Who or what can separate us from the love of God?”

Nothing.

Right?

Nothing can separate us from the love of God. His love is never-ending, unfailing, irreplaceable, immovable, unshakable, He won’t change His mind, inflexible, unwavering, unswerving, uncompromising, insistent, resolute, resolved, determined, firm, steadfast, unrelenting, unyielding, unbending… Adamant. His love is Adamant.

While we were still sinners, He loved and died for us. (Romans 5:8)

Then the question was asked; “Who or what will cause us to separate ourselves from the love of God?”

His love is always there. But will you walk away?

Why do we waiver and get wishy-washy in our faith?
Is our faith unshakable?
Is our faith immovable?

What or who will I allow to separate me from the love of God?

More specifically – What am I currently allowing to separate me? What is different from where I was to where I am? Why do I feel further? What has changed? I just wrote a devotion on Psalm 32. I thought of verse 3 that says “when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long”. What are we keeping silent about? What have we allowed to come between us and the Lord?

“The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; He delivers them from all their troubles.”
Psalm 34:17

“He fulfills the desires of those who fear Him; He hears their cry and saves them.”
Psalm 145:19

“Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
Psalm 37:4

“Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous fall.”
Psalm 55:22

As I was reading and preparing the devotional post of Psalm 34 this week, verse 17 stuck out to me. So many people who face troubles and hard times are quick, in those moments, to cry out to God. Then sometimes they are quick to blame Him when things don’t go right.

A lot of the time scripture can be taken out of context. The scriptures above are all very encouraging scriptures “He delivers them from all their troubles”, “He fulfills their desires, He hears their cry, He saves them”, “He will give you the desires of your heart”, “He will sustain you, He will never let you fall”. Those things sound great, right?

But do you notice what I did? I took the “condition” out of it. If you read scripture and only hear the blessing that is there, you miss out. If someone only wanted a relationship with you because of the things you do for them or the way you look you wouldn’t like that either, right?

These scriptures have conditions on them; “The righteous cry out” we must be righteous, “He fulfills the desires of those who fear Him” we must have a holy reverence, awe, and fear of God. “Delight yourself in the Lord” find your joy, pleasure, in the Lord, be captivated by Him, choose Him, please Him. “He will never let the righteous fall” we must be righteous.

What does it mean to be righteous?
Righteous: A person of good conduct. Morally right or justifiable, virtuous. Very good, excellent.
Synonyms: good, virtuous, upright, upstanding, decent, honorable, blameless, irreproachable, noble, pure.

If we are not willing to do our part, to choose Jesus in every area of our lives, to live above reproach, to live righteously, to delight in Him, how can we expect these blessings, how can we become angry when we don’t have or feel entitled to these blessings? How can we allow these things to come between us and separate us from His love?

Now, you may ask; How can we do that? How do we live this way when “life” happens and not everything goes my way? How do I choose Jesus? Glad you asked. 🙂 Get in the Word. Yes, that’s usually my answer for everything. But shouldn’t it be? God has given us all we need in His Word, in His Son Jesus, with the Holy Spirit. Choose to submit to His leading, to His authority and allow Him to work in you. Surrender your flesh, your human will and live according to His Word.

“Learn to see yourself as God sees you.” Pastor Tom Smith

Learn to see yourself as God sees you and be adamant about it!

You are a child of the King!
You are the head and NOT the tail!
You are above and NOT beneath!
You are chosen!
You are set apart!
You are a warrior!
You are in the army of the Lord!

Adamant: refusing to be persuaded or to change ones mind. Unshakable, Immovable, inflexible, unwavering, unswerving, uncompromising, insistent, resolute, resolved, determined, firm, steadfast, unrelenting, unyielding, unbending.

Be adamant about your love for Jesus. Be adamant about His love for you. Be adamant about the scriptures that you read, and be adamant about sharing the love of God.

I recently got the book Adamant by Lisa Bevere. I can’t wait to start it! Have you read it? Once I finish it, I will do a book review!
