Read Genesis 7-9

The story of Noah has so much within it. I could write numerous blogs and have countless conversations about how we can apply truth from His life to ourselves. What I want to point out today is the importance of doing what God commands and trusting Him.

In Genesis 7:2 God tells Noah that he *will* take with him these certain animals. Then in verse 5 it says “and Noah did according to all that the Lord commanded him.” Then in verse 15 & 16 it says that the animals went to Noah and they went in the ark as God commanded them.

Imagine watching a dog herd sheep, or a shepherd herd cattle. That can look a little chaotic. If one veers off you have to go get it and bring it back, make sure they know where they are going and don’t get lost. Now, imagine being told you need a male and a female of every living thing. Imagine shepherding that!

But God didn’t tell Noah to go find them. He told Noah what would happen. Noah trusted God in what looked like an impossible situation.

Matthew 6:25-34 tells us that God takes care of the birds of the air. If even they are taken care of, how much more are we? If the birds can hear and obey what God has commanded, like they did in Genesis, so can we.

What has God commanded?

What is God asking of us?

For me personally, it’s to trust and wait and be still knowing He has my life in His hands. I’ve waited my entire life to go to Africa. It’s what I’ve always wanted to do. Here I am on the edge, approved, ready, have an assignment and people to do life and ministry with… then right in the middle of raising funds – pandemic – and the world basically shuts down.

But the world shut down when Noah got on that ark, too. God was in control then and He’s in control now. He promised Noah that the animals would come to him. That seemed impossible. Yet, they did. He promised me I would go to Africa. That may feel impossible sometimes, but I know I’ll go.

In chapter 8 Noah sends out a bird to check for dry land. He didn’t have a plan, he had a promise. The Lord didn’t tell him to send out the raven but he did it. Noah only knew that the Lord was faithful and promised to take care of him. Noah did what he could the best he could until he received further instruction from the Lord.

So, in this unique time. Let’s do what we know to do, what we can, as much as we can, until we receive further instruction from the Lord.

Journal prompts:

1. Think about what the Lord has called you to do. Is it work from home, homeschool your kids? Is it go to the mission field yet things are out on hold? Write down what God has called you to then write Genesis 7:16 and Matthew 6:34. Spend some time in prayer with the Lord reminding yourself that He is faithful.
